Over 30 million albums worldwide, and yet Alicia Keys has still maintained her roots, and has given women around the world an empowering voice through her songs.
She’s worked alongside artists like Lenny Kravitz, Stevie Wonder and John Mayer in a whirlwind of success, and yet still has her heart set in working alongside charities. Her latest album The Element of Freedom was recorded in a three-storey house in Long Island turned into a studio.
Her love of piano carries on in this album, reiterating the singer’s style for jazz, soul and R&B. ‘Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart’s R&B beat keeps her lyrics of loss within a free and dreamy sound. Mix that with ‘Doesn’t Mean Anything’, a piano piece with Keys singing her heart out about loneliness without the one you love, and you have an album that will speak to the core of all who are trying to move on.
